A school-based occupational therapist, or OT, looks at educationally relevant skills of children in their natural school setting. A school-based OT assesses a child's fine motor, gross motor, visual-perceptual, visual-motor, and self-help skills, along with his or her sensory needs, and how these impact functional ability in the classroom. The focus of school-based OT treatment services is to improve a child's development in the areas that he or she may have difficulties that impede his or her ability to experience success as a student in the classroom environment.
