Merritt Memorial School recently welcomed some very special guests for one of our most cherished traditions... MVP Day! Hosted by our fifth-grade students, MVP Day gives students in grades 1–4 the opportunity to invite one Most Valuable Person into school to spend meaningful time together and enjoy a special breakfast.
From the moment guests arrived, our fifth graders took on the role of gracious hosts. They proudly led tours throughout the building, sharing what makes Merritt Memorial School such a special place and highlighting the rich history woven into our school’s walls. Their enthusiasm, knowledge, and pride in their school were on full display.

Throughout the morning, fifth graders also served as table hosts and servers, ensuring that everyone felt welcomed and cared for. Their leadership, responsibility, and teamwork helped create a warm and memorable experience for all who attended.
This event was made even more meaningful by the presence of the Cresskill Police Department and Cresskill Fire Department, whose members visited during the celebration. They spent time with students as special guests, helping to create lasting memories and reinforcing the strong connections between our school and the greater Cresskill community.
This year’s MVP Day was particularly special as we were honored to welcome several veterans who were stationed at Camp Merritt when the site was still used as a military base. Their presence brought Merritt Memorial School’s history to life and provided a powerful and meaningful connection between our past and present.

This wonderful event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our Home School Association (HSA). The HSA generously provided the decorations, food, and drinks, and worked alongside our fifth graders to help serve throughout the event. Their partnership and dedication played a vital role in making MVP Day such a success.
MVP Day is a beautiful example of the strong sense of community at Merritt Memorial School by bringing students, families, staff, and community members together to celebrate the people who mean the most to us. We are so proud of our fifth graders for hosting such a meaningful event and grateful to the HSA, our local first responders, and our honored veterans for making this day truly unforgettable.
